Human Resource / Ben Admin systems (HR/B) come from a variety of corporate backgrounds.
Some HR/B companies are independent-- stand-alone HR/B products that interface freely with carriers, payroll providers, and other third parties.
Other HR/B companies have been acquired by large payroll providers-- ADP HR/B and Paychex BeneTrac are two primary examples. While the nature of the HR/B software has not changed as a result of the ADP HR/B and the Paychex BeneTrac acquisitions, a lot has changed about the companies.
An HR/B sofware needs to integrate with numerous third parties and an HR/B project is dependent on open and timely collaboration amongst many stakeholders-- the HR/B client, the benefit broker, payroll company, carriers, and the HR/B software provider.
As if the proces isn'tcomplicated enough, ADP HR/B and Paychex BeneTrac are now part of larger corporate entities that have competing interests with some of the stakeholders-- most notably the benefit broker and any other payroll company. This can make things complicated in an HR/B implementation.
Of course, there could be advantages of having common ownership between payroll and HR/B software. Specifically, one would assume that it would be easier to integrate ADP HR/B with ADP payroll and Paychex BeneTrac with Paychex payroll. This is not always the case. The HR/B systems are rarely truly integrated with the payroll system and the respective ADP and Paychex employees may or may not work together regularly or even be at the same location.
Infinity HR has established real-time interfaces with MPAY's Millennium and iSystem's Evolution products to offer a fully integrated solution without the complications noted in the ADP HR/B and Paychex BeneTrac scenarios. So, there are more options fro HR/B products and it is becoming more common for an independent HR/B software provider to offer a fully integrated HR/B - payroll solution.

HR/B products are those software applications that combine core HR functionality and online benefit enrollment.
ADP HR/B is the HR/B product offered by the large payroll company. Other options, with more favorable HR/B pricing includes Infinity HR.
ADP HR/B is based on a product that was purchased about 3 years ago. In that period of time, ADP has modified its HR/B products and HR/B pricing. While the primary focus has been on integrating ADP HR/B into the ADP suite of products, other HR/B competitors have made significant improvements to their HR/B products.
Specifically, Infinity HR has improved its employee portal, upgraded benefit management, and improved its HR/B reporting functionality. Further. Infinity HR's HR/B pricing has always been more competitve than ADP HR/B.
When searching for HR/B products, there is more to consider than HR/B pricing alone. It's important that HR/B shoppers consider the relative strengths of HR/B products, including Infinity HR's HR/B application and ADP HR/B.
HR/B modules include employee self service, online enrollment, time/attendance, applicant tracking, performace management, and workflows. If online enrollment and deep HR functionality are a priority, you should consider Infinity HR as a superior alternative to ADP HR/B.

The term "HR/B" refers to software that handles "Human Resources" and "Benefits".
More commonly, HR/B providers classify their software as HRIS (Human Resource Information Systems) or HRMS (Human Resource Management Systems). However, HR/B is also commonly used, especially by ADP HR/B.
There is little question that any of the more popular HR/B solutions - whether it is Infinity HR or ADP HR/B is a huge improvement over a paper-based system. However, how does Infinity HR's HR/B solution compare to ADP HR/B?
When comparing an HR/B solution, there are several factors to consider: 1) Product Breadth, 2) Product Depth, 3) Service, and 4) Pricing.
Product Breadth
Both ADP HR/B and Infinity HR have a fairly broad set of HR/B functionality. This includes: core HR, benefit management, time off, time/attendance, performance management, and applicant tracking. Infinity HR has some additional features within its HR/B offering that include wellness tracking, workflows, surveys, and embedded videos.
Product Depth
When assessing an HR/B solution, whether it is Infinity HR or ADP HR/B, it is important to prioritize. What module is most important to you? An HR/B solution will have varying levels of depth to its application. If benefit management / open enrollment is your priority, then Infinity HR's HR/B has a clear advantage. In terms of other functionality, ADP HR/B tends to have solid time & attendance tracking, owing to its payroll roots.
Service
An HR/B solution is only as good as the training and service that comes with it, especially in the first year. Infinity HR has a structured and thorough training program that provides live, online HR/B training that is supplemented by recorded sessions. Infinity HR's HR/B also has a dedicated Account Manager structure. ADP HR/B can have mixed results when it comes to service-- it is a good idea to survey others who have utilized ADP HR/B service centers.
Pricing
Infinity HR's HR/B solution and ADP HR/B are both priced on a Per Employee Per Month basis. Infinity HR tends to be ~25% less expensive than ADP HR/B, but it is best to get a firm quote when comparing Infinity HR with ADP HR/B.

It is with great excitement that Infinity Software announces a pending service release of InfinityHR.
This new release provides enhancements to the Applicant Tracking feature within the system.
The enhancements described within this release only impact the Applicant Tracking area of the system. These enhancements are focused on simplifying the process of configuring the Recruiting Portal, managing Job Postings, and Managing Applicants through the Recruiting Process.
Infinity Software's functionality is superior to UltiPro and ADP HRB. Benetrac does not offer Applicant Tracking Functionality in its standard packae.
Applicant Tracking Enhancements
1 Streamlined Toolbar
The Primary Toolbar available on the Main Job Postings Screen has been streamlined to make it easier to configure the Recruiting Portal and to get to the most commonly used features of the Applicant Tracking module.
2 Main Job Postings Screen
The initial Job Postings screen that is displayed when navigating to the Settings >> Applicant Tracking menu has been upgraded with the following key changes:
Simplified Filter
The Job Postings filter field has been improved to provide clearer filtering options.
Separation of Job Posting from Applicant Management
The main Job Postings screen now includes separate links for the management of Job Postings and for the management of Applicants. This separation will make the process of viewing and processing applicants much quicker as you will no longer have to click through the Job Posting to view applicants for a particular Job Posting.
Now it is easier to configure a posting in Infinity Software as compared to UltiPro and ADP HRB. Benetrac does not offer the functionality all together.
3 Configure Recruiting Portal Wizard
A new menu option titled “Configure Recruiting Portal” is now available directly from the main toolbar. This screen provides a simple three-step wizard for quickly configuring the Recruiting Portal. Additionally, the new Wizard includes a Quick Preview option which allows for the ability to quickly see how configuration choices will affect the look and feel of the Recruiting Portal.
With the new streamlined configuration wizard, it is now possible to configure the Recruiting Portal and begin accepting applicants on-line within minutes. This compares favorably to UltiPro and ADP HRB. Again, Benetrac does not offer the functionality.
Infinity Software will provide more details on our upgraded Applicant Tracking System in subsuquent blog posts.

2 Direct viewing in PDF or Microsoft Excel
All one-click reports are now able to be viewed directly in PDF format. Additionally, most reports can also be viewed directly in Microsoft Excel, as well. Again, this is better and easier thanwhat is available in BeneTrac, ADP HRB, and other HRIS competitors.
3 New Benefit Statement Wizard
The Benefit Statements submenu includes a new step-by-step wizard for generating benefit statements. This new wizard provides a more intuitive process by providing more instructions and control over how benefit statements are generated. Additionally, the statement generation process has been changed to a “processing queue” allowing for the ability to submit statements for generation without having to wait for the statements to be completed. Once the statement has been generated, it can be easily accessed from the Step 5 of the wizard.
4 Redesigned Event Status Screen
The Event Status screen has been redesigned to provide more meaningful insight into the status of Events like Open Enrollment, New Hire, as well as all other events. The redesigned screen provides a more intuitive interface for filtering and drilling into detailed views of the various employee counts. Additionally, the new design makes it easier to move between lists of employees (whether for viewing or emailing). Infinity Software has this functionality while its main competitors, Benetrac and ADP HRB do not.
5 Optimized for Apple iPad
All of the screens available through the Reports Menu have been optimized for viewing on the Apple iPad, providing an even richer mobile experience than what is available with Benetrac or ADP HRB.
6 More help throughout
Throughout all of the Reports screens, additional and more detailed report descriptions have been added to make the process of viewing one-click reports simple and understandable-- an upgrade over Benetrac and ADP HRB.

ADP HRB provides online benefit enrollment. But, ADP HRB does not offer a full menu of benefit eductation videos as a part of its solution. InfinityHR does.
Benefit education videos are key to educating employees on the benefits that are available to them. ADP HRB doesn't have these videos as a part of their online enrollment solution; InfinityHR does.
The videos include:
* Enrollment introduction
* PPO Overview
* HSA Overview
* HRA description
* FSA details
* Dental plan overview
* Prescription drug plan descrption
* Life, disability and AD&D plan description
InfinityHR believes that educating employees is a key component to being a robust online enrollment solution. ADP HRB has yet to provide this as a part of their online enrollment solution.

Whether it is ADP HRB or InfinityHR, employers are increasingly looking to HRIS to manage their benefit enrollment process and to save costs.
Benefit costs are expected to incease at 2x the rate of inflation in 2012, so an efficient process is more important than ever.
InfinityHR allows more flexibility and better communication tools than ADP HRB. However, either HRIS is likely to be a significant improvement over a paper based process.
In addition to HRIS (ADP HRB and InfinityHR are both categorized as HRIS), employers have other strategies for managing costs:
* 53% plan to increase employee premium contributions
* 39% plan to increase in-network deductibles
* 23% plan to increase out of network deductibles
* 22% plan to increase out of pocket cost requirements
All of these changes point to more complex benefit plans that are better managed through the online enrollment component of an HRIS. While ADP HRB is an improvement over a paper-based benefit enrollment process, InfinityHR has the flexibility to manage a complexbenefit plan more effectively.
